Weathering the storm together

Out of the Ashes | January Update

Lives Touched This Month

During the month of January, we served a total of 69 individuals in our community:
•    34 women and children
•    35 men

These numbers represent real people families, elders, widows, children, and neighbors, who needed a safe place during a season of extreme hardship.

A Lifeline During Winter Storms

The Code Purple Emergency Shelter became a true lifeline during the two winter storms that impacted our region. In the coldest moments, individuals had:
•    🛏️ Safe shelter
•    🍽️ Nutritious meals
•    👕 Clothing and hygiene supplies
•    🚿 Warm showers
•    🕊️ A safe, sober environment
•    ❤️ Most importantly love, dignity, and care

When there was nowhere else to go, there was a place here.

Because of You,

This work is only possible because of your support and prayers. The mission is bigger than any one person or organization, it truly takes a village.

As we’re often reminded:
“The world is a stage, and everyone has a part to play.”

Whether you give, pray, volunteer, or share you matter in this mission.

Why This Matters

Most people are one paycheck away from homelessness. Hardship can affect anyone
a widow, an elder, a child, or even your neighbor down the road.

As the saying goes:
“Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.”

That care is what we strive to show every single day.

Together, we are making a difference.

With Gratitude,
Pat & Chelsea Chamberlain

It truly takes a village, and all hands were on deck as we prepared for and weathered this recent storm. What could have been a difficult situation became a powerful reminder of what true community looks like.

First, we want to thank Rutherford County Emergency Management for going above and beyond by providing two generators so we could continue offering essential services if power had been lost. We are also incredibly grateful to Fountain Electric for getting everything properly wired and storm ready, and to those who helped us update and secure our undated HVAC systems, your willingness to stand in the gap and push through the pressure with us truly mattered.

Many people don’t understand the preparation and planning, the commitment and dedication, the GRIT and Grind as well as all that goes into what we do on a daily basis, Weekends and Holiday’s included! #365/24/7

Thank you to the kind ladies who brought blankets, to everyone who prayed with us and for us, and to Firehouse Subs for the generous donation of 400 subs. Every act of service, seen and unseen, played a vital role in helping us care for people during the trials our community faced because of the weather.

Rutherford County should be smiling. God has truly shown His grace and mercy through the people of this community.

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
Galatians 6:9

We also want to give a special thank you to the Forest City Owls for once again sponsoring Faith Night 2026 on July 18, featuring Rare of Breed. We are grateful for partners who believe in breaking the chains of addiction and homelessness and investing back into our community.

We are currently seeking sponsorships and community collaboration from individuals and businesses who want to help us make a difference, one person at a time. If you’re interested, please contact us at 828-395-2000, or you can sow a blessing at Outoftheashesnc.org

We want to take a moment to sincerely thank Governor Josh Stein for this thoughtful letter recognizing 10 years of service by Out of the Ashes Ministries to the people of Rutherford and Polk Counties.

This post isn’t about politics. It’s about coming together for the greater good of mankind and helping people.

We are deeply grateful, not only for this acknowledgment from our Governor, but for every person, church, business, volunteer, donor, and community partner who has stood with us and believed in what God is doing right here in our own backyard.

This work has never been about applause or recognition.
We do it for the cause.
To help our fellow human beings break the chains of addiction and homelessness, one person at a time.

Everything we have been able to accomplish over the last decade has only been possible through God’s grace and the unwavering support of our community. We could not do this alone, and we are truly thankful.

Jason Couch came to the mission broken and bound by addiction. Like so many, drugs had taken a toll on his body, his mind, and his hope. But God wasn’t finished with his story.

While in recovery, Jason faced a life-threatening medical crisis and had to undergo emergency open heart surgery. In that moment, he truly believed he crossed over but by the grace of God, his life was spared. Jason shares that he knows without a doubt the Lord intervened, saved him, and brought him back for a purpose.

Today, Jason is not only clean and sober he is alive, restored, and walking in gratitude. He now serves alongside us, helping other men who are fighting the same battles he once faced. His life is a living testimony that recovery is possible and that God is still in the business of healing, restoring, and redeeming.

We are deeply grateful to God for the work He is doing in Jason’s life and for the way Jason is now pouring that hope into others. We look forward to an even greater praise report as God continues to write this story.
